BECOMING LAKE CITY is a brand-new podcast that shines a spotlight on the everyday folks who help make Lake City extraordinary. Through heartfelt, surprising, and sometimes downright hilarious stories, award-winning storyteller Dawn Mikkelson strives to capture the spirit, charm, and quirks that make this little town by the lake feel like home.

Thanks to the residents of Lake City, a few wonderful folks will be interviewed for our first season, to premiere Spring 2026.

From the nominations, we will choose people whose stories complement each other in fun and meaningful ways, painting a bigger picture of life in Lake City.

Folks who have made their neighbor’s day a little brighter, overcome challenges, done something amazing, or just have a heart of gold.

Big moments, quiet courage, or just being a genuinely great human—whatever it is, we will tell their stories.

The title of the project “Becoming Lake City” reflects the notion that it is the people who make a community what it is. This is for ANYONE who lives in Lake City. Newcomers, life long residents, etc. 

(And don’t worry—if your nominee isn’t picked this time, it’s not about the who’s better, but more about how the stories fit together.)
